City Hires ‘After-Hours Ambassador’

The City of Bloomington has hired a so-called After-Hours Ambassador. Jenna Whiteaker will assume the role on July 1, which according to the city, aims to provide a liaison between downtown businesses and patrons, after city offices have closed. HUD To Fund New Shalom Development

Shalom Community Center in Bloomington received hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund a new Housing First development.  Executive Director Forrest Gilmore said the Davis Homes are the latest Housing First development, aimed at reducing area homelessness. The Davis Homes Apartments Initiative received a $322,000 Federal grant from Housing and Urban Development on Friday.  Davis Homes Apartments are expected to be in development …

Indianapolis Anti-Homelessness Ordinance Dies

The Indianapolis City-County Council let the “No sit/No Lie” ordinance die without a vote, yesterday. The vote was cancelled by the ordinances’ author, Republican Minority Leader Michael McQuillen. Area Shelters Brace for ‘Chilling Effect’ on Area Homeless

Recent drops in temperatures can exacerbate the problems faced by those experiencing homelessness. The National Health Care for the Homeless Council says hypothermia can set in at anywhere from 32 – 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
