Indianapolis Considers ‘Homeless Ban’

Indianapolis’ City County Council is considering a measure that would prohibit people from laying down, or even sitting on public sidewalks.

The council meets this evening to consider a proposal that opponents say criminalizes homelessness. Shalom Community Center Director Forrest Gilmore says If passed in one of the democratic strongholds in the state, its possible other metropolitan areas could follow suit.

The so-called ‘Sit, Lie measure’ is proposed by Republican City Councillors Susie Cordi, and Michael McQuillen. Reverend Gilmore says several area residents will be present at tonight’s Indianapolis City County Council meeting.

The meeting of the Indianapolis City County Council is being held at 200 East Washington Street in Indianapolis. Constituent concerns can also be phoned in at (317) 327-4241.
