Shalom Community Center in Bloomington received hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund a new Housing First development. Executive Director Forrest Gilmore said the Davis Homes are the latest Housing First development, aimed at reducing area homelessness. The Davis Homes Apartments Initiative received a $322,000 Federal grant from Housing and Urban Development on Friday. Davis Homes Apartments are expected to be in development over the coming year. Johnson and Crawford housing complexes, which are also housing first initiatives were also approved for renewed HUD grants earlier this month.
