Indiana School District Funding Referendums Pass 12-0

Indiana residents voted in favor of 12 school referendums during this Tuesday’s primary election. The Associated Press reports the endorsements include measures to increase property taxes to boost funding for local school districts. Eight districts throughout the state applied for operating referendums to help fund daily expenses such as salaries and academic programs. Four districts applied for capital referendums, which …

Monroe County Commissioners Meeting Brings Attention to Need for Affordable Housing

An affordable housing development planned for the former Thomson plant property, located off South Rogers St, is moving forward. Monroe County Commissioners approved an agreement yesterday transferring up to 14 acres of the 84 acres property to Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County. The U.S. congress is currently drafting a new Farm bill. In addition to providing insurance and subsidies for farmers and agricultural businesses, the bill would also cut benefits and increase work requirements for SNAP recipients.
