Bloomington Road Construction Updates and Advances

Play

There will be lane changes and closures on both the Second and Third Street bridges starting this evening, May 10th, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation. All traffic on the Second Street overpass will be shifted to the south side of the bridge starting tonight until further notice. Construction crews will be working to install new lighting, sidewalks, and support structures on the north side of the bridge. There will be a nightly closure of a westbound lane on the 3rd Street Bridge from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until next Monday in order to allow crews to move a water line.

According to Monroe County Public Works Director Lisa Ridge, work continues on the Fullerton Pike project, with a focus on Rohrer Road. On the upside, Ridge says roadwork at the intersection of Tapp Road and I-69 is on track to be completed in the next two weeks. Ridge expects that the opening of that interchange will ease traffic congestion constrictions at the Second and Third Street bridges. Authorities urge drivers to reduce their speed, pay attention to changing traffic patterns, and drive with no distractions.  All construction activity is weather dependent and the schedule is subject to change, according to the INDOT.
