Area Newspapers Cut Jobs

The Hoosier Times, a media group which owns several prominent publications in WFHB’s listening area, is cutting 17 jobs at local papers. The Herald-Times of Bloomington’s Managing Editor Bob Zaltsberg made the announcement, in today’s edition. Zaltsberg said the media group, which also owns Bedford’s Times-Mail, Martinsville’s Reporter-Times, and the Spencer Evening World, is cutting over a dozen jobs between …

Lake Monroe Friends Secure City Backing

The Utilities Service Board will support a water quality initiative, by the Friends of Lake Monroe. Friends of Lake Monroe, a nonprofit, is applying for a federal grant to develop a watershed management plan, which would include the creation of a watershed coordinator position. The city of Bloomington released its proposed annual budget on Friday. The 300-page document outlines 90 million dollars worth of expenditures. A majority of those funds are going to staff salaries.
