Super-Majority Held by Republicans in Indiana State Legislature

Indiana House Republicans will hang onto their super-majority in the state’s legislature. The Republicans have held a super-majority of over two-thirds in both the state house and state senate since 2012. The Grand Old Party currently maintains 67 seats in the state’s House of representatives to the Democrats 33 seats. Democrats picked up one seat during last week’s midterm elections. …

JD Ford is Indiana’s First Openly-Gay Legislator

On Tuesday, voters in Indiana elected the state’s first openly gay legislator. Democrat J.D. Ford defeated Republican state Senator Mike Delph in a district which includes parts of Indianapolis and Carmel. Ford also turned 36 on Tuesday, making him one of the youngest legislators in Indiana. Porter County Commissioners Ask FBI to Investigate Alleged Election Law Violations

Two days after the midterm election, and no votes have officially been counted  in northwestern Indiana’s Porter County. Commissioners in Porter County asked the FBI on Wednesday to investigate, “scores of alleged violations of Indiana Election Law,” following Tuesday’s midterm election. While most counties had reported midterm election results by at least 11 p.m. last night, Porter county, with 132 precincts in a predominantly Democratic area of the state, is still tallying votes.
