Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was in Bloomington on Friday.
Sanders is on a 9-state tour to endorse Democratic candidates, including Indiana 9th congressional district candidate Liz Watson. Sanders spoke during a get-out-the-vote rally in Dunn Meadow, on Friday. The former Democratic presidential candidate then marched with Indiana University students and rally attendees to Monroe County Election Central, in downtown Bloomington.
Liz Watson is running against incumbent 9th congressional district Republican Trey Hollingsworth.
Federal campaign finance reports put Watson’s campaign on top with just two weeks until midterm elections. Liz for Indiana so far has raised over $1.9 million, with over 80 percent coming from individual contributions. Hollingsworth’s campaign has raised over $1.3 million, according to FEC filings by Trey for Congress. Less than a quarter of that comes from individual donors.
The Indianapolis Star reported an estimated 2,200 people attended the Sanders-Watson rally on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington on Friday.
The 2018 mid-term elections take place on Tuesday, November 6.
