Porter County Still Tallying Mid-Term Votes

Play

While most counties had reported midterm election results by at least 11 p.m. last night, Porter county, with 132 precincts in a predominantly Democratic area of the state, is still tallying votes.

Porter County’s commissioners and its voter registration office said vote counting began this morning. The county’s election board said results won’t be released until votes are counted in all 132 precincts.

Ballots cast after 6 p.m. Tuesday at 12 county polling attribute the delay in vote tallying to a judge’s order for voting sites to stay open late. Those votes won’t be counted until next week, along with all provisional ballots cast – that’s a similar situation to voting sites here, in Monroe County, which were ordered to stay open late due to polling places not having enough paper ballots.

The Associated Press reports Porter County Commissioner Laura Blaney said the counting delay was caused by several problems, including late voting and absentee and early ballots not being sorted in a timely fashion.
