The largest garage sale in Monroe County opens for a bonus holiday sale!

All items are donated from the public and proceeds of the Holiday Bonus Sale fundraiser support the preservation of the collections, programs, and exhibits of the Monroe County History Center.

Fix a Bike for a Kid in Need

Who is available to attend our first Buy Nothing Bloomington event? Tomorrow 1-3pm we will meet to help fix up kids bikes to donate in Buy Nothing Bloomington. Zero experience needed. Kids welcome to participate! Come for a few mins or stay the 2 hours

Benjamin Britten: St. Nicolas, Ceremony of Carols

On Sunday, December 5th, 2021, the Bloomington Chamber Singers will present a program of seasonal works by English composer, Benjamin Britten. Culminating with Britten’s dramatic oratorio, Saint Nicolas, Op. 42, the program will also feature one of Britten’s best-known and most-performed works, A Ceremony of Carols, Op. 28. Conducted by musical director, Gerald Sousa, the concert will take place at 3 pm at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Bloomington, (100 State Road 46, Bloomington, IN).

FAR Photo Workshop Series: Practicing the Basics

In this two-hour session, we’ll use our digital cameras to better learn the basics in all sorts of applications. There will be a few hands-on photo exercises to practice digital camera mechanics, composition, working with natural light. Please bring your digital camera. Camera phones are welcome!

About the instructor: Chaz Mottinger is Bloomington-based professional photographer and Community Engagement Coordinator at FAR where she leads workshops and art programming. Her other work includes event and marketing for Indiana University Studios and instructing photo workshops for IU Lifelong Learning. Her photo work can be seen on billboards, ads, and in publications like Limestone Post.

Note about COVID: Masks are required for all participants. We will be in a large space that allows for distancing, has a CDC recommended air filtering system and we will have our big garage doors open for plenty of ventilation, weather permitting. Also, our instructors are fully vaccinated.

Holiday Watercolor Workshop for Adults

Over two hours, attendees will learn watercolor painting basics and techniques. Local shop Griffy’s Art Supply will provide watercolor cards and their own handmade paints for each attendee to take home! Attendees will also have the chance to learn about motif and pattern while stamping sustainable brown paper gift wrap. All attendees will leave with original hand-painted cards, a sheet of their pattern-stamped gift wrap, and the basics to continue painting. Each ticket includes light snacks and two glasses of red or white wine.

*Must be age 21+ to take workshop. IDs will be checked at door.*
