An explosion on Indiana University’s Bloomington campus shut down Tenth Street over the weekend.

On Friday night, an electrical problem blew a 60 year-old conductor underground. Indiana University Communication’s Director Chuck Carney said the explosion knocked out power to some surrounding buildings and caused the closure of the busy east-west thoroughfare in Bloomington. Carney said no one was injured in the underground explosion. After speaking with utilities staff, he said the conductor which caused the explosion was dated back to 1962. He said the conductor became overloaded after it wasn’t grounded.
