Maple Heights Approved as Historic District

The majority of Bloomington Common Council members voiced their support last night for designating the Maple Heights neighborhood an Historic Conservation District. The Maple Heights Neighborhood Association requested the designation with the Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission, which recommended it to the council. Monroe County Youth Service Bureau to Undergo Expansion

The Monroe County Council has appropriated $2.4 million to expand the Monroe County Youth Service Bureau facilities. The Monroe County Commissioners already approved contracting with Building Associates Inc., pending the council’s funding approval. Proposed Budget Fully Funds DCS

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced his proposed state budget, today. The embattled Department of Child Services would get, in the Governor’s proposed budget, $286 million each year. Monroe County Commissioners Make Herstory

Record numbers of women were elected to office in 2018. In Monroe County, Lee Jones, Julie Thomas, and Amanda Barge comprise the first all-women county government in Indiana. The Monroe County Board of Commissioners met for the first time in 2019, this morning. Thomas, who serves on WFHB’s Board of Directors, said the Commission will host a celebration next week.
