Herald-Times Sold to NY Publisher

The Herald-Times is among eight Indiana newspapers sold to Gatehouse Media. South-Bend based Schurz Communications Inc. purchased The Herald-Times, in 1966. Scott Schurz addressed members of the Bloomington-based newspaper this morning, at 9 a.m. The former publisher, along with departing Editor Bob Zaltsberg announced the paper, along with other holdings of Schurz Communications’ publishing division, will be sold Friday. E. Chicago Residents Take Issue With EPA Remediation Plan

The Environmental Protection Agency evicted around 1,000 people from the West Calumet Housing Complex, because of lead and arsenic contaminated soil. The Superfund site was formerly a US Smelting and Lead Refinery facility, and includes part of the former USS Lead facility. Areas nearby include commercial, municipal, and residential buildings.
