JD Ford is Indiana’s First Openly-Gay Legislator

On Tuesday, voters in Indiana elected the state’s first openly gay legislator. Democrat J.D. Ford defeated Republican state Senator Mike Delph in a district which includes parts of Indianapolis and Carmel. Ford also turned 36 on Tuesday, making him one of the youngest legislators in Indiana. Indiana federal candidates have spent over $44 million cumulatively on Midterm elections. The state has one of the most closely watched Senate races in the nation, between incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly, and Republican Nominee Mike Braun, who outspent Donnelly.
