Indiana a Bellwether for Midterm Senate Brawl

Play

Indiana federal candidates have spent over $44 million cumulatively on Midterm elections.

The state has one of the most closely watched Senate races in the nation, between incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly, and Republican Nominee Mike Braun, who outspent Donnelly. Braun spent $15.5 half million during his campaign, against Donnelly’s $14 million.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, Indiana’s “Bloody Ninth,” which includes Brown, Monroe, and Lawrence counties, tells a different story. Incumbent Republican Congressman Trey Hollingsworth was outspent nearly two-to-one by Democratic Nominee Liz Watson.

In both races the challenger has outspent the incumbent, regardless of party.
