But first, your local headlines:
Monroe County Public Board of Trustees
The Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees met on March 20th. At their meeting, they discussed updates on the Southwest library, which was closed in January after a frozen exhaust pipe led to extensive flooding in the building.
According to the Monroe County Public Library Director Grier Carson, the library received 200,000 dollars for repairs.
Carson said that they do not currently have a planned reopening date for the library because there are so many parties involved.
Board member Kathy Loser asked what precautions will be taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Carson replied that the investigation should provide an answer.
Carson said that they have been, “very intentionally not putting a lot of information out to the public about what’s coming because we don’t have anything to share.” However, he said they have agreed to an interview with the Herald Times so that the public can see how much damage the building incurred.
The next meeting of the Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on April 17th.
Monroe County Plan Commission
At the Monroe County Plan Commission meeting on March 19th, Planning Department Associate Planner Anne Crecelius presented a rezone request to the commission. The Hopkins Rezone located at 7540 South Old State Road 47 in Clear Creek Township is asking for a rezone from Agricultural Rural to Suburban Residential.
Crecelius, introduced the rezone request and presented some background information on the property to the commission.
Crecelius shared that the Highway Department had some input on the rights of way, but said that it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Crecelius said that the Planning Department recommends approval of the rezone request.
Commissioner Julie Thomas said she supports the rezone, but wants to make sure they don’t allow for future problems for the planning department.
The Petitioner’s Representative Eric Deckard, shared the petitioner’s intentions for the property.
Commissioner Member Jerry Pittford motioned to approve the rezone request.
The commission voted unanimously to send a favorable recommendation to the Monroe County Commissioners.
The next Monroe County Plan Commission meeting will be held on April 16th.
