Play

This is the WFHB Local News for Thursday, February 16th, 2023.

Later in the program, we have Prescription for Healthcare, a podcast collaboration between the WFHB Local News and Medicare for All Indiana. More in the bottom half of our program.

Also coming up in the next half hour, on today’s episode of Voices in the Street, Youth Radio hit the windy streets of Bloomington to ask local residents their thoughts on Valentine’s Day, both on a personal and societal level.

But first, your local headlines:

Monroe County Personnel Administration Committee

At the Monroe County Personnel Administration Committee meeting on February 7th, Committee Member Peter Iverson was elected as Chair. The nomination passed unanimously.
The Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Phil Parker asked the committee to approve the creation of a position to maintain the jail’s facility.

Committee Member Marty Hawke asked Parker about the hours of the position. Parker responded that it would be a full time position for 40 hours. He added that it will require flexible hours.

Committee Member Geoff McKimm asked if they would discuss outlining the role of the Sheriff’s Office and the commissioners to maintain the facility. County Legal Molly Turner King said she was ready to discuss this and collaborate with the Sheriff’s Office.

The committee agreed to continue to work on the position together, finalize it, and send the position to WIS in the next seven days.

Monroe County Election Board

A banner reads, “Vote Here Today,” at 401 W 7th Street, Suite 100 (Young).

On February 9th the Monroe County Election Board continued their discussion on the polling sites for the 2023 municipal primary election. The board motioned to recess this decision at their last meeting to wait until they knew whether or not Ellettsville and Stinesville would be involved.

Board Member Donovan Garletts introduced the resolution to approve the polling sites for 2023, without a location in Stinesville.

Monroe County Chief Deputy Clerk Tressia Martin gave updates on the upcoming election in May.

The next Monroe County Election Board meeting will be held on March 2nd.
