Coming up in today’s program, the League of Women Voters delivers the latest installment of its podcast, Civic Conversations, in partnership with WFHB. That’s coming up in today’s feature reports.

Also coming up in the next half hour, WFHB Correspondent Katherine Patterson speaks to Katie Norris, Director of Hotels for Homeless and Emily Pike, director of New Hope for Families in today’s feature reports.

Bloomington COVID-19 Press Conference

The COVID-19 Vaccination supply is limited, but updates on who is eligible to be vaccinated can be found on the state website, Coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine. Monroe County Health Director Penny Caudill said local vaccine updates will be distributed through local press, the county website, county social media, and the county alert system.

Caudill said the next demographic to receive the vaccine would be decided by the state. Brian Shockney, IU Bloomington Health South Central Region stated the vaccines are safe and effective. As of December 30th, IU Health provided over 3 thousand COVID-19 vaccines to frontline healthcare workers, and recently received approximately 4 thousand additional vaccines.

Shockney also reported 5 deaths in Monroe County due to COVID-19 over the week of December 21st to December 25th. He mentioned the hospital has seen its highest inpatient rate over the last two weeks.

Caudill encouraged the community to safely celebrate the New Year’s Eve holiday.
