Monroe County Council

The Monroe County Council met on August 8th. During department updates, Monroe County Commissioner Penny Githens shared the commissioner’s salary recommendation for 2024. Githens shared that they would like to increase county staff wages by 8.5 percent to ensure staff can afford to live in the county they work in.

Next, the Surveyors Office gave an update on their G-I-S mapping. Monroe County Surveyor Trohn Enright-Randolph introduced the department update.

G-I-S Coordinator John Baeten gave a demonstration of the Monroe County Community Resource Web Page.

Next, the Council discussed the Local Income Tax for the 2024 budget. Council President Kate Wiltz explained that this is an annual review of the estimated property tax levy limits and property tax caps for the budget.

Council Member Geoff McKim shared the Tax Cap Impacts from 2023, and the estimated tax cap impacts for 2024.

McKim tied the conversation about Local Income tax back to Commissioner Githens’ presentation on the salary recommendation for 2024.

The Monroe County Council will continue their discussion of the 2024 budget at a meeting on September 6th.
