Jeannine Bell, professor at the IU Mauer School of Law has spent time with police and prosecutors researching how hate crimes are investigated and brought to trial in our country. In September 2012 Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi committed suicide after his roommate, Darun Ravi broadcast Clementi kissing another man to members of their dorm. The case New Jersey v. Ravi is currently grabbing national headlines, and on Friday Ravi was convicted for bias intimidation. Bell speaks with WFHB News director Alycin Bektesh about her area of expertise – hate crimes – and how it relates to the college campus and social media, in a Daily Local News feature exclusive.
