This morning, Monroe County Commissioners approved an agreement to transfer 14 acres of the county’s Thomson property to Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County.
The property, located off South Rogers Road, will be the site of an affordable housing development.
County Attorney Jeff Cockerill, said the land transfer will come in two stages.
The agreement also sets up a separate non-profit to manage the property. Cockerill said the third party’s operating expenses will be paid out of revenues from the new housing leases.
Habitat’s attorney, Angela Parker, views the agreement as ‘a launchpad.’ She said the non-profit is still working with the City of Bloomington on zoning issues related to the property.
During the meeting, Public Works Director Lisa Ridge said officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation will be reviewing I-69 Section 5, as the project winds down.
