MCCSC to Consider Metal Detectors in Schools

Play

The Monroe County Community School Corporation is inviting community members to weigh in on whether or not the school corporation should implement a security program.

Tomorrow’s public forum comes after the state of Indiana released funds for school districts to purchase metal detectors. MCCSC Spokesman Andrew Clampitt said the metal detectors are being released in waves. Clampitt said tomorrow’s community conversation is for the school corporation to hear the opinions of residents.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb’s office pushed for the school safety initiative. The initiative allots one metal detecting wand to be available to school districts for every 250 students. Clampitt said tomorrow evening’s community discussion is meant to gauge how the public wants MCCSC to approach the school safety initiative.

Tomorrow’s public meeting over Governor Holcomb’s scanner initiative takes place at MCCSC’s facility at 553 E. Miller Drive, at 6:00 p.m.
