The Monroe County Community School Board wore red shirts to their Monday night meeting.
The Board’s apparel was part of a statewide “Red for Ed” campaign, showing solidarity with MCCSC educators and education advocates who demonstrated at the statehouse this week, for increased education funding, including better pay for teachers.
MCCSC has garnered some additional funding through a series of local referendums that increased property taxes by 14 cents. The 2010 referendum yielded seven point five million dollars for MCCSC, which the board says has funded more than 80 teaching positions, as well as preschool programs and extracurricular activities.
The next meeting of the MCCSC school board is scheduled for May 14th.
