On Wednesday morning, Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton announced to a room of reporters, politicians and residents that the city will buy 24 acres of the current Bloomington Hospital at a discounted rate.
Hamilton says the city will pay $6.5 million for the current site, discounted from an IU Health commissioned appraisal of the site’s $16 million estimated value. A purchase agreement with IU Health is expected in February.
While there are currently no plans as to what to do with the demolished hospital grounds, Hamilton says the community will have a chance to weigh in.
