Inside the Monroe County Jail

Play

Last week, the City of Bloomington Human Rights Commission inspected the Monroe County Jail, where they got a sneak peak into the living conditions of local inmates. The commission learned that the vast majority of inmates have not been convicted, but are awaiting trial or adjudication. They also found out that over 85% of inmates have dealt with issues of substance abuse or addiction. In today’s feature, correspondent Ryan Dawes speaks with two members of the commission, Byron Banghert and Alexa Lopez, about their tour of the jail and what they observed inside, in this WFHB feature exclusive.
