Hoosier National Forest Adds 114 Acres

Play

The Hoosier National Forest is adding over 100 acres to its protected land.

The US Forest Service purchased 114 acres of mostly deciduous woodland on the south side of Lake Monroe, in late June. The acreage, which was purchased from an area family, was bought for over $450,000. The US Forest Service resubmitted their bid for the purchase several times to a national pool, before gaining approval this year. The family stayed in negotiations with the Forest Service throughout the process, reportedly wishing to add the land to Hoosier National Forest.

The Hoosier National Forest is the largest area of contiguous public land in the state.
