Governor’s Infrastructure Plan Bypasses State’s Legislature

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb’s proposed $1 billion infrastructure plan did not seek input from the state’s legislature.

According to the South Bend Journal Gazette, the Governor’s proposal to the Indiana Finance Authority largely bypassed legislators. The IFA is expected to pass the Governor’s infrastructure agenda this Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

The infrastructure proposal would levy higher tolls on commercial trucking in the state. An estimated $600 million would go to completing construction on Interstate-69. The state took over construction on the interstate after its private partner, Spanish international development corporation Isolux-Corsan went under. The interstate is over two years behind schedule.

Another provision in the infrastructure bill would levy $90 million to improving access to and extending Indiana’s trails systems and hiking availability.

The proposal goes before the Indiana Finance Authority, Thursday.
