Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is planning to spend an additional $1 billion on infrastructure projects across the state.

The Governor’s office announced yesterday, that they concluded renegotiating an agreement with the company that operates the Indiana Tollway, and that the funds are to be raised through toll increases on heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Under the new terms, which will need to be approved by the Indiana Finance Authority, rates charged on vehicles with three or more axles will increase by 35 percent next month.

Holcomb’s office said the tollway operator will pay the state the $1 billion in three separate installments, and the state plans to allocate over half of those funds to speed up the completion of Interstate 69.
