The deadline to change voter registration information is one week from today, midnight on April 8th. Although Primary election day is over a month away, voters in Monroe county are being encouraged to double check their registration information. You can check your voter registration by calling the Monroe County Clerk’s Office, or by going to the state’s voter website, indianavoters.com.

Monroe County Elections Supervisor Karen Wheeler says early voting for this May’s primary begins next week, on April 9th. The full schedule of early voting hours, held at 401 W. 7th St, Suite 100, are as follows:

April 9th – 12th  8:00 am – 6:00 pm
April 15th – 18th  8:00 am – 6:00 pm
April 22nd – 26th  8:00 am – 6:00 pm
April 27th  9:00 am – 4:00 pm
April 29th – May 3rd  8:00 am – 6:00 pm
May 4th  9:00 am – 4:00 pm
May 6th  8:00 am – NOON

On Primary election day, the polls will be open 6am-6pm. Voters will need to bring a picture ID.

Wheeler says candidates who have announced they’re suspending their campaigns, including Mayoral candidate Amanda Barge and City Council Candidate James Blickensdorf will also appear on ballots in the upcoming primary.

Wheeler says out of the over 40 voting precincts in Monroe County, only a few Republican candidates will appear in primary races on early voting ballots.

Monroe County Elections Supervisor Wheeler says her office does not expect trouble with getting enough ballots to polling sites – Voters were delayed across voting sites in Monroe County, as record voter turnout swamped polling stations. Monroe County Elections Central kept printing and shuttling ballots to polling sites, as they ran out. Wheeler says she doesn’t expect as high turnout in May Sevenths primary.
