Bloomington’s City Council is meeting today and tomorrow to decide on the proposed revision of the city’s Unified Development Ordinance.
33 amendments are up for discussion. Among the topics up for debate are parking requirements for the different residential units. Residential density is another topic on the agenda. Various amendments would make suggestions as to where the city can afford to have denser residential zoning.
The revision of the UDO started early last year and has taken on several phases. Objectives of the UDO include maintaining a balance of diverse housing options throughout the city and creating incentives for new developers.
Essentially, the UDO is the local guide for land use policy, zoning and housing development in the city of Bloomington. Its jurisdiction applies to all land, buildings and structures within the City of Bloomington and the areas over which the city exercises planning and zoning. The current document, adopted 12 years ago, is 371 pages long.
The meetings continue 6 p.m. today and tomorrow at City Hall at 401 N. Morton St.
