The Bloomington Common Council meets again this week, to discuss the passage of harassment and abuse policies for contractors, interns and volunteers.
This Wednesday night’s city council meeting will be the second time council members will consider passage of anti-harassment policies, specifically targeting non city employees. The meeting and policy change comes as Monroe County grapples with passing their own anti-harassment policies, after former Monroe County Commissioner Amanda Barge was accused of harassment by a former county contractor.
Monroe County staff and legal departments found they did not have any harassment or abuse legislation pertaining to independent contractors. The county is currently reviewing their policies in the wake of the allegations.
Bloomington city officials, quickly followed suit. Wednesday night’s meeting by city council is expected to come to a vote over sweeping changes to the city’s policy documents. The changes are expected to apply to anyone doing work at, or for, the city, including volunteers, according to city spokeswoman Yael Ksander.
