Tonight we have Monroe County Commissioner Amanda Barge on to talk about her recent announcement this Tuesday Amanda Barge is considering running to replace Hamilton as mayor in the 2019 city elections.
Amanda was born and raised in Bloomington and is married with two children. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Gender Studies from Indiana University and then a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin.
After working for eight years in community mental health, she became a business owner by opening my own practice, Amanda Barge Counseling. She continues this work with Monroe County families, helping them navigate tough issues like divorce, substance abuse and mental health concerns.
Amanda has a long track record in Monroe County government – prior to being elected to the County Board of Commissioners in 2016, she served on numerous boards and commissions including the Monroe County Women’s Commission and the Steering Committee for the Democratic Women’s Caucus.Amanda co-founded the Monroe County Opioid Summit which has received state recognition with an award for cooperation in local government initiatives.
This week, Amanda announced the launch of her exploratory committee for a bid to be Bloomington’s next mayor.
