Agreement Could Lead to Higher Pay for Jail Employees

Play

The Monroe County Commissioners approved a one-year collective bargaining agreement with county jail staff yesterday. County Attorney Jeff Cockerill told Commissioners yesterday the agreement could eventually lead to pay increases for jail employees.

Cockerill said employee retention is partially driving the salary review.

Jail Commander, Sam Crow is not party to the contract, but he voiced his support for it.

Other aspects of the agreement impact training, overtime, and sick time. Cockerill explained that training will no longer be counted as overtime, if staff members are given adequate notice.

The jail’s collective bargaining agreement takes effect on January 1st, 2019.
