After Shooting, Buttigieg Appears at Town Hall

Play

South Bend Mayor and Democratic Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg continues to suspend campaign events, after last week’s fatal shooting of a black man by a white police officer.

The 37 year-old, two-term mayor addressed the community at a town hall meeting, last night. The Associated Press reports a further 11 people were shot yesterday, including one man fatally, after a gunman opened fire at a South Bend bar. Five of those shot early Sunday are reported to still be at South Bend’s Memorial Hospital.

St. Joseph County Sheriff’s officers were called to the hospital early yesterday morning, after a crowd showed up, prompting Memorial Hospital to be placed ‘on lockdown.’

Buttigieg addressed some community members’ racial bias concerns, last night. It is not currently clear when the Democratic presidential candidate will resume campaigning.
