In today’s feature report, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Indiana Daily Student Marissa Meador speaks with WFHB News. Meador touches on incoming Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith’s social media posts threatening the student publication for publishing an image of President Elect Donald Trump featuring quotes from former supporters and those who have previously worked with him.

Beckwith’s social media post said, “This is woke propaganda at its finest and why most of America looks at higher education indoctrination centers like IU as a complete joke and waste of money. This type of elitist propaganda needs to stop or we will be happy to stop it for them.”

Meador defended the student publication’s editorial independence and factual reporting, noting it has a guest column policy for diverse viewpoints as long as the content is factual and well-written. She elaborated on how funding works at the IDS, challenges facing the student newspaper and the role of the news media in defending democracy.
