Sin-Isan Thai Music & Dance
Lotus Education & Arts Foudation, along with the IU Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies Program and the FAR Center of Contemporary Arts to bring you Sin-Isan, a 15-member Thai ensemble of musicians and dancers. Free and open to the public, the performance begins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the FAR Center of Contemporary Arts on the corner of 4th & Rogers St.
Sin-Isan celebrates the unique music and culture from the Isan region of northern Thailand. Considered the “rice bowl” of Thailand, Isan shares important heritage with neighbors Cambodia and Laos. Based in the Mahasarakham University College of Music and led by Dean Komkrich Karen, Sin-Isan presents classical Thai folk in an ensemble performing a wide variety of Thai music and dance. Sin-Isan is a frequent winner of national music competitions, including most recently the Thailand Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ 2018 Folk Music Competition.
