Are you the kind of person that carries a rock in your pocket? Do you watch for spring blooms each year, or notice the call of birds each morning in your neighborhood? Are you craving a creative way to connect more with the natural world? Come out to Nature Journaling on March 18, 9am – Noon, at Bryan Park.
Nature journaling is the process of spending time outside paying attention to what we notice, and recording these observations in a ‘nature journal’ book. Techniques can include writing and drawing, or photography, collage, and any other process that appeals to you. With a goal of connecting deeply to our senses of wonder and curiosity, our focus is less about making beautiful drawings and writings (although those sometimes happen, too), and more about reflecting our direct observations in nature. Join us as we gather each month to tap into our sense of awe.
What to bring:
-nature journaling supplies: a journal (blank book) and a pencil are most important
Other supplies include a favorite pen, colored pencils, watercolor supplies, camera, binoculars, loupe (small magnifier) and any other creative mediums you enjoy
-a chair (if you’d like)
-water or other beverage to stay hydrated
-wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear, as we are outside the whole time
-all ages welcome
We’ll meet as a group to share prompts and say hello near the Pavilion along Woodlawn Ave (Pavilion #3, parking available across the street), head out to meander along the creek at the heart of Bryan Park, and eventually return again to the group to add to our work and share inspiration.
Whether you’ve been keeping journals for years, or a budding beginner, we welcome you to come out and put pencil to paper in the company of other enthusiasts. We will be meeting on the third Saturdays of each month, visiting parks and preserves in and around Bloomington, IN. For more info, email
