WFHB Hiring Full-time Youth Radio Director

WFHB is seeking a qualified candidate to head WFHB’s Youth Radio program.

The Youth Radio Director provides leadership to and educational and administrative oversight for WFHB’s Youth Radio program, which specifically serves youth in South-Central Indiana. Each Saturday between 6 and 10pm, WFHB’s Youth Radio program empowers youths between the ages of 12-20 to learn the skills of live radio broadcasting and podcasting for their own content creation and curation.

  • Qualifications
    • 2+ years’ experience energizing and educating children and youth.
    • Commitment to youth development principles, community radio and community engagement.
    • Strong group facilitation skills.
    • Excellent communication skills with youth and adults.
    • Strong initiative and ability to work independently and with a team.
    • Demonstrates a non-judgmental attitude and philosophy of inclusiveness and equity.
    • Demonstrated ability to build community partnerships.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
    • Preferred experience in broadcast or podcast programming, announcing, and audio studio productions.
    • Must pass a background check.
  • Supervisory Relationship
    • Reports to the General Manager. Works with other staff. Supervises Youth Radio interns and volunteers.
  • General Duties and Responsibilities
    • Curriculum development oversight, partner outreach and youth recruitment.
    • Leads Youth Radio program staff in developing, implementing, and refining YR program.
    • Provides vision and strategic leadership. Works with General Manager, as well as Development Director, News Director, and Music Director.
  • Specific Duties and Responsibilities
    • Develops contacts with local educational and arts organizations, including schools and other local non-profits to partner on program curriculum and foster youth involvement.
    • Develops and maintains appropriate relationships with educators and students throughout the WFHB broadcast area.
    • Serves as Ambassador and spokesperson to the community for WFHB’s Youth Radio program.
    • Ensures that WFHB’s youth programming complies with FCC regulations, other applicable laws, and WFHB’s policies.
  • Benefits
    • $32,000-$36,000 annual salary.
    • Marketplace health insurance reimbursement up to $600 per month.
    • Flexible schedule/work from home options.
