Expressive Lives of Elders: Folk Art

Traditional Arts Indiana will host a blacksmithing demonstration with Jason Nickel and his apprentices Paolo Ansaldo and Iris Nickel at the Brown County Public Library on Saturday, March 9^th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with a program to follow at 2:00 pm.  Join us to interact with these Indiana artisans while learning more about the TAI Apprenticeship Program, the new Indiana Heritage Fellowships, and traditional arts practices in our state.

Over the past 30 years, Jason has built a deep understanding of and ability in the art of blacksmithing, apprenticing with Monroe County blacksmith Jack Brubaker and becoming lead blacksmith in Jack’s shop in 2007.  Jason and his apprentices work together to, as Paolo puts it, “transform lifeless lumps of metal into beautiful works of art or useful tools.”
