Traditional Arts Indiana will host a hoopnet demonstration with Larry Haycraft and his apprentice Samuel Haycraft at the Brown County Public Library on Saturday, March 30th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with a program to follow at 2:00 pm. Join us to interact with these Indiana artisans while learning more about the TAI Apprenticeship Program, the new Indiana Heritage Fellowships and traditional arts practices in our state.
Larry is a fourth generation hoopnet maker from Pike County, part of a family known for unique and signature oval nets. Made to fish in shallow and swift running water, these nets are incredibly complicated to create. Larry’s son Samuel marks the fifth generation of net makers in the Haycraft family.
