The algae-induced tap water ban in Toledo, Ohio. Widespread fish deaths in Long Island. A dead-zone the size of Connecticut in the Gulf of Mexico. America has a mounting water crisis. Our cities are facing persistent drinking water contamination stemming primarily from nutrient pollution, which is excessive phosphorous and nitrogen washing into bodies of water. Sources include sewage, manure, agricultural runoff, storm water, and wastewater.
On Tuesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., The Venue will host a presentation by Jennifer Pearl, Jennifer is a China-focused public affairs strategist specializing in policy, strategic communications, and partnership and program management. Her Master’s is a dual degree in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and East Asian Language and Cultures. She has extensive experience in guiding teams to achieve impactful partnerships, smart policy, and international business success in healthcare, higher education, trade, and poverty alleviation.
While living and working in China, Jennifer was able to observe the extensive use of Chinese biogas toilets and digesters, and recognized that they could play a critical role in improving our infrastructure to address our water challenges. In her presentation Jennifer will explain how biogas toilets can effectively harness sewage sludge and manure to produce methane for electricity and slurry for fertilizer. From a liability to an asset. From a big part of the problem to an even bigger part of the solution.
