“Jackson Creek Middle School and Creek Rocks Productions present: 2190: The Future is Now, an original rock sci-fi musical.
When Joe Donnelly taught elementary music in Columbus, Indiana he overheard a kindergartner tell another teacher “I’m getting tired of sleeping in my car”. This inspired a song and a story that has evolved into a new original musical that will have its world premiere at Jackson Creek Middle School. The opening song, I’m Getting Tired, sets the stage of a young girl living in the year 2190. The dystopia she lives in is oppressive and soulless. Rebellion is brewing, but there is nowhere to go.
A voice comes to her and urges her to leave her city and find her long-lost father. The voice belongs to the leader of a band of mythical creatures, that have many secrets to be revealed throughout the story. After a long journey to find her father in a city of the rich, she is disillusioned with him, and learns the truth about her world.
The pit orchestra is Jackson Creek Middle School’s top Rock band, and the music is all original and high energy. The lead role is played by Lucia Walker, best known for her role in Cardinal Stages’ production of Mary Poppins. The cast is loaded with kids with stage experience gained with Cardinal, Stages, and BEAT productions. The sets are all video projections and the costumes are all designed to transport the audience into the future. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime event!”
