Feb 13 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Celebrate the enduring power of love this Valentine’s Eve, Monday, Feb 13 with hammer dulcimer player and composer, Malcolm Dalglish and his Ooolite Singers & Friends. This swirl of music, theater, dance and homemade apple pie has become a midwinter Bloomington tradition. A benefit for Middle Way House, Love Songs for a Lasting World expands the notion of love to include the love between sweethearts young and old, parent and child, brothers and sisters, and for elders and the natural world. The show begins at 7pm in the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and concludes by spilling out into a street party ‘round a bonfire where homemade apple pie from Muddy Fork Bakery will be served fresh from their wood-fired oven. Jeffersion Street Parade Band will also be performing for the first time at this year’s concert, which will provided needed funds for Middle Way House, the only domestic violence sehlter and sexual assault crisis center serving a six-county radius in southern Indiana.

Tickets for Love Songs for a Lasting World are $14 for children & students and $22 for adults – and your ticket includes a slice of pie! Tickets are available by visiting the Buskirk-Chumley Theater box office or online at www.BuskirkChumley.org

Face to Face with The Great White Shark-presented by Marc Tschida, The Venue Fine Art & Gifts, 114 S. Grant, Bloomington, IN @ The Venue
Feb 17 @ 5:30 pm

Marc Tschida, who recently left as Production Manager of Cardinal Stage Company to devote full time to his art of making and selling wonderful wooden puzzles, had an important item on his bucket list. Marc realized that his terrifying childhood experience of Jaws had left him with a phobia of open water, ocean or lake. He knew that he had to stand up to his fear, face to face, in the water, to put it all to rest (being no fool, in a diving cage of course).
To fund this therapy, Marc created a wonderful shark puzzle, and devoted all of his income from that puzzle, for one year, to pay for his trip. It took him to Guadalupe, an island 200 miles off the coast of Mexico. In the course of this adventure, Marc was in the water with not just one, but no less than 18 Great Whites.
On Tuesday, February 21th, beginning at 5:30p.m. at The Venue, you can see Marc’s presentation of his experience in photos and video, and hear his narrative. He will leave it to you to measure his success in burying his demons.
Join us.

Katy Guillen and The Girls with J.D.Whitcomb and the Coveralls, Players Pub, 424 S Walnut St., Bloomington, IN
Feb 19 @ 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm

Katy Guillen and The Girls may have deep roots in the blues, thanks to leader Guillen’s considerable skills and long history as a blues guitarist, but this trio—Guillen (guitar, vocals), Claire Adams (bass, vocals), and Stephanie Williams (drums)—brings a wide range of talents and tastes to the band’s sound. Guillen’s searing and lively licks, William’s heavy, driving drums, and Adams’s rock-solid bass create a dense sonic background for Guillen’s honest and powerful lyrics, delivered with soul and verve and complemented by Adams’s intense harmonies.

Starting January 16, Moms’ Monday, our new moms group, will be held in The Baby Space at the Monroe County Library on every first and third Monday of the month from 10 am to noon. This space is a separate, fully enclosed room designed just for the needs of babies who are not yet walking, and their caregivers.

This group is a drop-in style. It is open to moms and their babies who are not yet walking. Please note that older children are not permitted in The Baby Space.
