Emergency Declared in Additional Counties

One-third of Indiana is under an emergency declaration, following torrential rain and flooding last month.

Governor Eric Holcomb expanded the list to Gibson, Lagrange, Vanderburg, and Vermillion counties on Friday, bringing the total number of flooded counties to 35.

A near record amount of rain fell on the northern-most and southern-most parts of the state last month. The torrential downpours saturated northern counties, and caused the Ohio River to overflow its banks in the southern portion of the state.

State officials are cautioning residents in the effected counties to beware of predatory contractors. The emergency declaration lasts for thirty days and extends state resources to local governments.
