City Council Turns Down New 4th Street Parking Garage

Play

The Bloomington Common Council declined to approve $18.5 million in bond funding to rebuild the Fourth Street Garage, during its meeting last night.

Instead, council members want to see the garage repaired. Council members said repairing the downtown garage will buy the city time to examine downtown transportation and parking needs.

A five-year repair is estimated to cost around $1.5 million. To make it last another 15 years could cost around $4 million. The minimum closure time for a five year repair would be six months.

The Fourth Street Parking Garage is set to close to the public in January.
