Come celebrate the power of community radio with this commemorative concert for WFHB featuring (headliner) Wishy of Indianapolis, and local acts Amy O, and (opener) Leroy McQueen and The Vatos Supreme. WFHB Past and Present: 50 Years of the Bloomington Community Radio Project takes place on Thursday, July 10th at the Bluebird Nightclub in Bloomington Indiana.
Fifty years ago this July, a benefit was held for the Bloomington Community Radio Project at The Bluebird Nightclub inviting community members to support a platform that represented their voice, their music, and appreciation for creativity and cultural diversity in the form of a community radio station. With the event’s wild success, WFHB’s community was born.
WFHB plans to commemorate this important milestone in Bloomington’s history when the community came together with a resounding ‘Yes’ to community radio. This July, WFHB wishes to highlight its faithful support for local music, and celebrate the station’s future made possible by the community that still sustains it.
Participants will find interactive activities, displays of archival materials, as well as information and opportunities to engage with new WFHB programs. This is a commemorative event; however, it is in conversation with the present, inviting the community to envision and invest in the station’s future.
Community radio represents people power in numbers. Through simple acts, done in unison, the public can retain their power and make a difference where they live.
