But first, your local headlines:
This is Deep Dive: WFHB and Limestone Post Investigate where we look into issues regarding Health, Housing, and the Environment that directly impact residents of Monroe County. The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we’re looking into the rising concern of declining teen mental health.
One resource in Bloomington we don’t often associate with mental health is the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. The department is making an effort during Mental Awareness Month to inform residents about their programming and the benefits it can provide them with.
We spoke with Shelby Drake, Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department’s Health and Wellness Coordinator. Drake’s background is in nutrition and dietetics, but she gained experience working with mental illnesses at Riley’s Children Hospital in Indianapolis.nDrake said that while getting out in nature won’t solve mental health issues – there are benefits to the outdoors on one’s mental well being.
