In today’s feature report, Dave Askins of the B-Square Bulletin reports on the resignation of David Wolfe Bender from his city council campaign. We turn to Askins for more. More in today’s feature report.
That’s Ben Wendell from Community Justice and Mediation, talking about how this local nonprofit uses restorative justice to find alternative solutions to conflict in Bloomington. Monroe County Election Board

The Monroe County Election Board met on June 1st. Chief Deputy Clerk Tressia Martin shared that two candidates submitted late candidate filing forms, and asked the board to decide what should be done.
President of the Board Donovan Garletts suggested that both late filings be forgiven and both candidates given a warning, in line with the new procedure regarding first offenses.
The board unanimously voted to approve the warning for the two late C-F-A 4 filings.
Next, Board Member David Henry asked for clarification on the Stinesville and Ellettsville polling locations.
Martin responded.
The next Monroe County Election Board meeting will be held on July 6th.
Monroe County Commissioners

At the Monroe County Commissioners meeting on May 31st, commissioners read a proclamation in honor of Wear Orange Day bringing awareness to gun violence in the U.S.
Commissioner Penny Githens shared some additional information she found while she was researching the subject of gun violence.
Next, Health Department Director Lori Kelley gave an update on Covid-19 and health department developments for the month of April.
During public comment Monroe County resident Imania Maney spoke about Bloomington Speedway, and the noise ordinance. Maney said that he was alright with the noise, and that the Speedway should be allowed to continue past 11 p.m.
County Attorney Jeff Cockerill responded, and addressed the 11 p.m. noise ordinance.
Commissioner Penny Githens noted that they have heard from the public both support and opposition of the noise ordinance.
Next, Facilities and Fleet Manager Richard Crider asked the board to approve three contracts. He explained that the contracts are to relocate the badge reader on the entrance of the Curry Building.
Githens commented that she was glad to have local businesses working on the project.
The commissioners unanimously approved the contracts.
The next Monroe County Commissioners meeting will be held on June 14th.
