As Youth Radio Summer Camp comes to a close, we want to reflect on the success and creativity of the campers this year. Over the course of five weeks, approximately 40 participants plus camp counselors joined us from across Bloomington and Ellettsville, bringing their thoughts and opinions to the radio.
Youth Radio Summer camp is a partnership between WFHB and local camps. Thank you to Kid City, Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington Lincoln Street, Ferguson Crestmont, and Ellettsville for making this happen. Special thanks to Backspace Gallery for generously providing a space for us to record.

Camp Schedule
Week 1: Remote Playlists The camp kicked off with the creation of remote playlists. Each group made an hour-long music mix, sharing their favorite tracks and the stories behind why these songs resonate with them. Listen to the remote playlists here.
Week 2: Movie Madness Inspired by the Youth Radio podcast “Mixed Nuts,” our campers dove into all things cinema. From favorite movies and movie snacks to discussing iconic film soundtracks, the week was filled with spirited discussions. We particularly enjoyed the heated debate of TV shows vs. movies. Listen to the conversation here.
Week 3: News and Reviews In the third week, campers turned into budding journalists and critics, sharing pop culture updates, reviewing TV shows, artists, and books. Listen to the episode here.
Week 4: True Stories and Audio Theatre Teens from Ferguson Crestmont rose to the challenge of writing their own audio play called “Zombie Land”. The other camps shared personal narratives, telling tales from their own lives. Listen to their stories here.
Week 5: Choose Your Own Adventure The final week gave our campers the freedom to explore their passions. From introducing new music to debating the best pizza toppings and cookies, creativity and enthusiasm were at an all-time high in the final week of camp!
To all the campers who brought their energy, ideas, and voices to our station, thank you for making this summer so memorable. You gave us so many laughs over the last 5 weeks and your passion is truly inspiring. We also extend our thanks to the camp counselors for their encouragement along the way.
Until next summer, keep dreaming, creating, and sharing your voices with the community!
