Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is in Bratislava, Slovakia today to discuss potential economic opportunities with the Slovakian government.

The meeting also serves as a chance for officials to talk about the potential for deepening defense relations between Indiana and the eastern European nation.

Indiana and Slovakia have had an established defense relationship since 1994. As part of the relationship, the Indiana National Guard carries out military exercises with Slovakia each year. Per the new memorandum signed by Holcomb this morning, Indiana and Slovakia will begin to develop new commercial opportunities for military-related investments.

The signed memorandum also pledges that the state will increase academic cooperation with Slovakia. According to the Governor’s office, this cooperation will come in the form of more exchange programs and increased financial support of existing programs that ‘foster collaboration’ between Slovakia and Indiana.

Slovakia is the most recent, and final, stop in Holcomb’s European tour. The governor is traveling the continent to discuss potential economic opportunities with representatives from several nations. During the trip, Holcomb met with representatives from Germany, France, Austria, and Czechia.
